New Law Will - You Don't Actually Own Digital Games

a newly passed piece of legislation in California signed into law earlier this week by governor Gavin Newsom, will force companies selling digital goods—like games—in the state to warn consumers that they don’t actually own that content, but instead are licensing it and could lose access to it in the future.

Digital ecosystems have evolved from simple virtual communities into complex economic structures that, to a considerable extent, reflect the significant characteristics of real-world economies over the past 20 years. On one side, there are virtual economies and digital marketplaces at the macro level, where users trade NFTs and freelance services. However, a different but related concept, in-game economies, refers to those specific title-based economies that facilitate players in generating, marketing, and appraising game-related assets, such as skins, items, or currencies.
